The Black Hawk County Health Department has a temporary leader.

Thomas O'Rourke is serving as the county's acting Health Director until a permanent replacement for Bruce Meisinger can be found. Meisinger retired last month.

O'Rourke, who has a vast knowledge in public health, began his temporary duties soon after Meisinger left the job. O'Rourke, himself, retired as Black Hawk County's health director in 2010 after 36 years with the department.

The former health director will remain on the job until the Black Hawk County Board of Health recruits a new director. No timetable to find Meisinger's replacement has been publicly announced.
