Five people have been injured in a two-vehicle accident near Oran, in rural Fayette County.
The sheriff received a 911 call on Wednesday (Oct. 26) reporting this traffic accident at the intersection of Highway 3 and County Road V-68, east of Sumner.

A car driven by 39 year old Nathan Gebel of Lansing, did not yield to a truck driven by 58 year old Steven Chase of Waterloo.

After the collision, the vehicles ended up in a nearby ditch.

Gebel and his passenger, 66 year old Leonard Graves Jr. of Decorah, were taken to Sumner Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Chase and his 2 passengers, 40 year old Jerry Derifield and 56 year old David Chase, both of Waterloo, were tranported to Mercy Hospital in Oelwein. Steven Chase was then transferred to Unity Point-Allen Hospital in Waterloo. None of the injuries were life-threatening.

Gebel will be cited for Failure to Yield to the Vehicle on the Right.

The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted by the Oran and Fairbank Fire Departments, Oelwein and Oran Ambulance services and the Iowa State Patrol.
