Could the boys from down under be hitting airwaves again this summer?

On Thursday night (February 15), the fellas of 5 Seconds of Summer — Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin, Michael Clifford, and Calum Hood — revealed the band in a faded monochrome promo pic with the bold caption, "BEHIND THE SCENES 2018."

In its wake, the image caused a real frenzy amongst 5SOSers on Twitter, prompting many to perceive the image as a sign that the quintet's third studio album was on its way. And thus, the hashtag #5SOS3ISCOMING was born.

In an interview with Billboard last December, Clifford, who acts as lead guitarist in the group but also contributes vocals and keyboard arrangements, addressed the excitement surrounding their third album, to which the 22-year-old singer admitted the band had intentions on releasing another LP last year but things panned out differently.

"Our fans were pretty pissed off that we didn't give them an update about releasing an album this year because towards the start of the year, we were pretty positive we'd have an album out by the end of [2017]," Clifford told Billboard. "With timing, it just didn't end up working, but we're definitely gonna have the album out next year."

"It's coming along really well. It's taking a really long time to perfect the new sound and direction we're taking. I think the reason it's taken so long is because we haven't just wanted to get it to a place where we're, like, happy… We want it to be perfect," Clifford added, concerning 5SOS' new creative direction.

"I think when all the new stuff comes out, it's like a departure of our old sound but it still keeps elements of all of the things we liked about it. It was just time for us to change. The studio's been awesome. We've just been slaving away, living in there. We're at a point now where we're almost ready to put out our first single."

Although we've yet to hear something new by the four-piece since their 2015 follow-up, Sounds Good Feels Good, with all the buzz surrounding their latest publicity pic, we're trusting the young rockers will answer 5SOSers' requests with an earful of good music sooner than they know it.
