UNI wrestling grabbed two more spots at the NCAA national tournament, taking their total to seven wrestlers, while the team placed second on Sunday at the Mid-American Conference Championships.

The Panthers entered the final day of the tournament in first place, however Missouri closed the gap in the finals to win the title for the second year in a row.  Mizzou edged out UNI by 2.5 points, winning 118.5-116.

Northern Iowa came away with four champions: Dylan Peters (125 pounds), Joe Colon (133 pounds), Joey Lazor (141 pounds) and Cooper Moore (165 pounds). Three more medaled. Final places:

  • 141 – Joey Lazor 1st
  • 165 – Cooper Moore 1st
  • 174 – Cody Caldwell 4th
  • 184 – Ryan Loder 2nd
  • 197 – Jared Bartel 6th
  • 285 – Blaize Cabell 3rd
