It may be time to grab a scratch ticket next time you head to the convenience store. The Cedar Valley has been seeing more and more scratch ticket lottery winners lately. And there's another one. A Waterloo woman just became the latest winner.

The first of 10 top prizes of $20,000 available in the Iowa Lottery’s new “Spicy Hot Cash” scratch game was claimed Monday by a Waterloo woman.

Andria Walker said she stopped for some groceries Saturday night at Hy-Vee, 4000 University Ave. in Waterloo, and decided to buy a scratch ticket as well.
The 34-year-old scratched off her ticket right away and knew that she’d won, but she said she expected to win her money back.

“I thought, ‘It’s going to be another $2 winner,’”  “I saw the $20,000 and I called my niece immediately and told her, ‘I think I won $20,000!’” - Andria Walker told lottery employees Monday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s regional office in Cedar Rapids.

Walker said she held off on celebrating too much until she had her winning ticket verified at a local gas station the next day.

Walker said she and her husband plan to use a majority of their winnings to buy a bigger vehicle.

Spicy Hot Cash is a $2 scratch game. More details about how to play this game, and the number of prizes still up for grabs in it can be found on our website, www.ialottery.com.
