A young girl remains hospitalized with serious injuries, after falling about 60 feet at Backbone State Park in Northeast Iowa, over the holiday weekend.

8-year-old Marta Wehrspann of Jesup had been hiking with her family on one of the park's trails, when she apparently slipped on a rock and fell Sunday afternoon.

Marta sustained a head injury, and was initially taken to the Manchester hospital, before being flown to University Hospitals in Iowa City.

She was last reported in serious condition, with 3 skull fractures.

The accident was investigated by the Iowa DNR.
