The discovery of a woman's body has turned into a homicide investigation in Benton County.

The probe began after residents found a stolen truck, abandoned and damaged in a rural area east of Vinton late Sunday morning (Oct. 25, 2015). The residents then discovered a trail of blood and found the body of an unresponsive woman in a driveway nearby.

Benton County sheriff's officials received the call shortly before noon.

When they arrived, deputies discovered a white female deceased from injuries sustained from what they called "suspected foul play." Sheriff's officials notified the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to assist with the case.

Earlier today, authorities with the state agency confirmed the case is being treated as a homicide, but released no other information. The name of the victim isn't being made public until family members are notified.
