Carlos Fornaris scored twice and the visiting Cedar Rapids RoughRiders spilled the Waterloo Black Hawks 3-2 at Young Arena in a Valentine’s Day matchup.

A video review confirmed the only goal of the first period for the Hawks, just 28 seconds into the game.  With a scramble in the crease, Liam Pecararo flipped the puck into the glove of goaltender Danny Tirone.  The replay then confirmed that the puck went across the line, along with the glove, for a good goal.

The RoughRiders drew back even twice in the second, tying the game at 2-2 through 40 minutes.  Dylan McLaughlin scored on a power play rebound at 4:29.  That squared the count until Waterloo was nudged back ahead by Alec McCrea at 15:10, set up to score from the left dot by a cross-ice feed from Peter Krieger.  However, the 2-1 margin lasted only about two minutes until Fornaris batted in an opportunity at 17:36.

Near the midpoint of the third period, Cameron Johnson made his best save
of the evening, stopping Frederik Tiffels’ breakaway as the German forward
tried to slip a shot between the goalie’s pads.  However, minutes later
the RoughRiders pulled ahead with the eventual winner.  Fornaris bagged
his second of the night from close range with 6:54 left to play.

Tirone made the lead stand up with 38 saves, while Johnson made 33,
suffering his first loss as a Black Hawk.

The Hawks take the ice again on Saturday, traveling to the Tyson Events
Center to meet the Sioux City Musketeers.  The next game slated for Young
Arena will be February 25th versus the Lincoln Stars.
