The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders made the most of chances during and after
power plays to outduel the Waterloo Black Hawks 4-1 at Cedar Rapids Ice
Arena Friday (Feb 12, 2016).

Just seven seconds into an early first period power play, Cal Burke gave
the RoughRiders a 1-0 lead. Burke scored on the rebound of a Ross Colton
shot from the left point at 2:11. Moments after a second Cedar Rapids
power play ended, Zac Robbins fed a pass from the bottom of the right
circle to the top of the crease, where it was knocked in by Karch Bachman
at 8:31, making the score 2-0, where it remained through intermission.

Cedar Rapids struck on special teams again at 6:44 of the second. Hugh
McGing controlled the puck on the right boards, slinging a pass across the
slot to Colton, who snapped a shot into the net from the left circle.

The only true even-strength goal of the matchup came at 2:50 of the third
period when the RoughRiders John DeRoche came from behind the net to find
a loose puck and swat it in from a sharp angle.

For the second time in two trips to Cedar Rapids this season, the Hawks
broke up a Ben Blacker shutout bid with under a minute remaining in
regulation. Ben Newhouse fired a chance from the high slot to the top
corner with 51.2 seconds to go. Blacker finished with 29 saves.

The Black Hawks conclude the weekend with home games Saturday and Sunday
against the Lincoln Stars and Sioux City Musketeers respectively.
Saturday is Country Night, presented by K-98.5 FM, Continuous Country
