Blown Tire on Highway 20 Puts Car in Median, Driver in Hospital

A one-vehicle accident on Highway 20 near Independence has sent one person to the hospital.

It occurred at about 11:30am Monday, in the eastbound lanes of Highway 20, near mile marker 258 in Buchanan County.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 71 year old Rosemary Wertzberger of Dubuque was driving eastbound, when the left front tire of her car blew out.

Wertzberger's car went through the median, then traveled into oncoming traffic in the westbound lanes, before veering back into the median.

Wertzberger was taken by the Independence Ambulance to the Buchanan County Hospital in Independence, with unspecified injuries. Her condition was not available.

There was no indication of damages to her car.
