Burglar Arrested In Cedar Falls With Stolen Garbage Truck
The Cedar Falls Police arrested a burglar early this morning (12/31/15) after he stole a garbage truck and burglarized an area business.
According to the Cedar Falls Police report, offices were called to a burglary alarm at Wheels Unlimited Auto Sales at 1602 Center St. in Cedar Falls. When officers arrived they noticed damage to the front of the business and a subject inside. Officers secured the area surrounding the business until the Black Hawk County Sheriff K-9 Unit arrived.
Shortly before 1:30 A.M., officers searched the business aided by the K-9 Unit. Officers were able to locate Curt Douglas Widen inside the business. They also noticed a new green Ford garbage truck, believed to be stolen, used by Widen to damage and enter the business.
Curt Douglas Widen, 34, was charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, a Class "D" Felony and 1st Degree Theft, a Class "C" Felony. The theft charge is punishable by a sentence up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The burglary charge is punishable by a sentence up to 5 years in prison and a $7,500 fine.
