A fire that destroyed a home near a Cedar Falls golf course is under investigation.

Authorities are trying to figure out what sparked the blaze at 3919 Beaver Ridge Trail late Monday (Feb. 5, 2018). The house is located close to Beaver Hills Country Club, which is in a rural area about two miles northwest of the city.

According to Cedar Falls Fire Rescue officials, the family was home when the fire broke out. Everyone escaped the burning structure unharmed.

Crews were called to the scene around 9 PM. Units from Cedar Falls and four other area departments -- Dike, Janesville, New Hartford and Stout -- all responded.

Firefighters were hampered, somewhat, by a lack of hydrants in the rural community where the home is located. To extinguish the blaze, they had to haul water in from two miles away.
