Cedar Falls Man Charged In Local Bank Robbery
A Cedar Falls man is accused of robbing a local bank on Tuesday (Jan. 12, 2016).
Jon Ellingson, 26, is charged with second-degree robbery in connection with the hold-up, which occurred at a First National Bank branch near Thunder Ridge Court in Cedar Falls short before 2 p.m. Bank employees told police that a man, dressed in a purple University of Northern Iowa sweatshirt, entered the building with his face covered and presented a note stating that it was a robbery. The man did not display a weapon, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Investigators determined the suspect ran from the bank into the nearby Thunder Ridge Court, where he changed his clothing. Afterward, police said, he entered a pharmacy and apartment building before walking away from the area.
Ellingson was detained by officers minutes later approximately a half-mile from the robbery scene. Investigators later charged him in connection with the hold-up. Ellingson also was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear for court on an unrelated public intoxication charge.
According to police, investigators recovered the cash that was taken during the robbery. Ellingson is being held at the Black Hawk County Jail.
