Celebration of “Field of Dreams” 25th Anniversary Planned At Iowa Movie Site

For a quarter-century, people have been coming to Dyersville, Iowa, to see the baseball diamond that movie-makers built in a cornfield. The Oscar-nominated film “Field of Dreams” – starring Kevin Costner – debuted in theaters nationwide on April 21st, 1989. This summer, a star-studded event will be held at the movie site to celebrate the iconic film's 25th anniversary.

Costner and fellow cast members Dwier Brown and Timothy Busfield will be returning to Dyersville for a celebration event at the “Field of Dreams” movie site on Father's Day weekend. Joining them will NBC and MLB sportscaster Bob Costas, NBC “Today” show host Matt Lauer, and some of the biggest names from Major League Baseball – two-time Cy Young award winner and 1985 World Series Most Valuable Player Bret Saberhagen, 2013 World Series champion Ryan Dempster, and Glendon Rusch, who's 13-year career included multi-season stints with the Kansas City Royals, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs.

Other stars attending the celebration will be announced at a later date.

Details of the June 13-14 celebration were announced by Denise Stillman at a press conference in Chicago on Monday (April 21, 2014) – the movie's actual anniversary release date. Stillman heads the investment group that purchased the movie site property in 2013. The group wants to develop All-Star Baseball Heaven – a 24-field youth baseball and softball complex – at the movie site, on land adjacent to the “Field of Dreams”. Construction on phase one of the project could begin this spring.

The weekend activities include a VIP reception and dinner on Friday, June 13th at 6 p.m., followed by a question and answer session with the movie's cast members – moderated by Lauer at 7:30 p.m. The day will end with an 8 p.m. showing of the movie on a big screen set up on the field.

Events on Saturday, June 14th feature a day-long baseball tournament with cast members and other celebrities serving as team managers. Fathers and sons are invited to “have a catch” on the field at 10 a.m., and a celebrity baseball game is also planned at 4 p.m.

Costas will serve as Master of Ceremonies for the weekend events.
