Conditions Spark Burn Concerns In Northeast Iowa
Dry and windy conditions have increased the potential for grass fires in Northeast Iowa.
With yard work season in full swing, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a statement warning Iowans about the dangerous conditions. The areas of concern include the following counties: Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Fayette, Floyd, Howard, Mitchell and Winneshiek.
NWS officials said grass fires can spark easily and move quickly due to the combination of breezy south winds, expected low humidity and warm temperatures. Officials are warning that fires from brush piles and dead vegetation could get away if not properly tended to and managed.
Until further notice, the National Weather Service is highly recommending that Iowans in the effected counties consult with local fire officials before attempting any burning.
