The inaugural home game couldn't have gone any better for the Cedar Valley CourtKings Sunday night (May 15, 2016). They throttled the Minnesota Broncos, 111-71, at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex in downtown Waterloo.

The slow starts that plagued the CourtKings (1-2) in their two road games never materialized against Minnesota (1-2). Cedar Valley led the entire game and had six players score in double-figures.

Andre Norris tallied 18 points to lead Cedar Valley and Alex Houston followed with 16. Marvin Singleton and Lamar Wall scored 15 apiece, while LaDon Singleton and Anthony James each tallied 10. LeDon Singleton also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds and ended the night with the first double-double in franchise history.

Minnesota was paced by San Kenyi's 23 points off the bench. Team scoring leader Kavaarian Williams, entered the night averaging 34.5 points per game for the Broncos, was limited to just 10 on 3 of 21 shooting.

Cedar Valley took control of a tight game during the final four minutes of the first quarter. Leading 9-8, the CourtKings closed the period with a 15-2 run and owned a 24-10 advantage going into the second quarter.

Strong bench play helped Cedar Valley set the early pace, with the reserves outscoring the starters 15-9 in the opening 10 minutes. The CourtKings built a double-digit lead with 2:31 left in the first quarter and never allowed Minnesota to get any closer the rest of the way.

The CourtKings had the game in hand by halftime, leading 61-31.

Cedar Valley built its largest lead of the game – 41 points – at the 6:12 mark of the third quarter. Wall hit the second of two free throw attempts after being fouled, putting the CourtKings ahead 77-36.

During the third period, Cedar Valley outscored the Broncos 27-20. The CourtKings owned an 88-51 edge going into the fourth quarter.

The game was an emotional one for the CourtKings, who were playing with heavy hearts following the death of starting point guard Rashad Carrington. The former Mount Mercy star was killed in a car accident on May 8. Cedar Valley retired Carrington's No. 5 uniform during a pre-game ceremony.

Cedar Valley will be playing on its home floor again next week. The CourtKings host the Wisconsin Storm at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 15, at the Cedar Valley SportsPlex. It will be “Senior Citizens Night”, sponsored by NewAldaya Lifescapes of Cedar Falls. Everyone aged 60 and over gets half-price admission (Regular of $10, just $5) into the game.
