Cow Watching Contributes to Car Collision

The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a traffic accident in Allamakee County, that put a Waukon woman in the hospital.

It happened at about 9am Sunday (Dec. 3), west of Waukon on County Road W-60, or Old Stage Road.

74-year-old Ann Riste had slowed down because of a calf that was in the middle of the road. Meanwhile, 24-year-old Nicholas Stortz of Waukon was following Riste, but was looking at his cattle, when he ran into the back of Riste's car with his pickup.

The collision caused the car to go into the ditch and overturn.

Riste was taken to Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Waukon for treatment.
