Two Northeast Iowa motorists have been hospitalized after their cars collided in Floyd County.

The accident occurred just before 1:30pm Wednesday on Highway 18, east of Charles City.

An eastbound vehicle driven by 70 year old Alice Rethamel of New Hampton, crossed into the other lane and collided with a westbound car driven by 44 year old Douglas Kellogg of Ionia.

After the collission, Rethamel's car entered a ditch and crashed into a fence.

Both drivers were taken to an area hospital, but a report on their conditions was not available.

The accident closed down the highway to one lane for about an hour.

The Floyd County Sheriff is investigating; assisting at the scene were Charles City and Ionia Fire Departments, A.M.R. Ambulance, and Chickasaw County Sheriff.
