Bucks Swept In Day-Night, Split-Site Doubleheader

The Waterloo Bucks were swept by La Crosse in a day-night, split-site doubleheader on Wednesday (June 29, 2016). The Loggers won both games 7-2.

GAME 1 - At Riverfront Stadium, Waterloo (11:05 a.m.):

In the earliest start time ever for a Bucks home game, Waterloo saw its three-game winning streak come to an end in the opener of the day-night, split site doubleheader.

La Crosse (15-14) opened the scoring with three runs in the top of the third inning and led the entire game in a 7-2 victory.

Waterloo (19-9) cut the Loggers' lead to 3-1 with a two-out run in the bottom of the frame. John Gonzalez led off with a double that one-hopped the center field fence and moved into scoring position on Zach Weatherford's sacrifice bunt. Taylor Boyd later reached second on a fielder’s choice, resulting in Gonzalez being tagged out in a rundown. Alex Boxwell got Waterloo on the board with an RBI single to center, plating Boyd from second.

Both teams plated a run in the fourth inning, however La Crosse's was unearned. Adam McGinnis led off the frame for the Bucks with a sharp single down the third base line. Two batters later, Robert Neustrom moved McGinnis into scoring position with a groundout to first. Brody Weiss followed Neustrom with an RBI double down the left field line, bringing around Neustrom.

The Loggers put the game away with a two-run fifth inning and a one-run sixth. Six batters in the La Crosse lineup recorded multiple hits in the game.

Jordan Accetta (3-1) was charged with his first of the season for Waterloo. The right-hander allowed a season-high five runs (four earned) on nine hits, while walking three and striking out one.

GAME 2 - At Copeland Park, LaCrosse, Wis. (7:05 p.m.):

Although the venue was different, the score was the same -- a 7-2 setback for the Bucks (19-10) in the finale of the four-game series. In his second start of the year, Waterloo's Daniel Agramont took a no-hitter into the fifth inning. However, he failed to complete the fifth after allowing five-straight baserunners to reach in the frame.

The Loggers (16-14) scored three runs in the fifth after Griffin Conine ended Agramont's no-hit bid with a two-line drive single over the head of a leaping Boyd at second base. La Crosse then added four runs in the sixth inning.

Waterloo (19-10) cut the Loggers' winning margin to five with a two-out run in the eighth. Jake Hand drew a two-out walk and Neustrom was hit by a pitch. Weiss then made it 7-2 with an RBI single to left, bringing around Hand for the final run of the night.

Despite taking a no-hitter into the fifth, Agramont suffered the loss. The right-hander allowed three runs (two earned) over 4.2 innings, yielding four walks while striking out two.

With the losses, Waterloo fell to third-place in the Northwoods League's North Division race. The Bucks are just a game out of first-place with seven-games remaining to play on their first-half schedule.
