Iowa High School Girls Basketball Rankings – 01/14/2016
Six teams from the Cedar Valley and Northeast Iowa are featured in the sixth regular-season basketball rankings of the season, released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) on Thursday (Jan. 14, 2016).
Rivalry Saturday, a day-long event featuring eight games played in Cedar Rapids last weekend, caused a shake-up in the polls and propelled Turkey Valley to the top of the Class-1A rankings. The Trojans, ranked No. 3 last week, replaced Springville at No. 1 this week after upsetting the Orioles, 49-42, at the U.S. Cellular Center.
Waverly-Shell Rock moved up three spots in the Class-4A survey after pulling off an upset at the event last Saturday. The Go-Hawks beat defending Class-3A champion Nevada, 41-34. The victory over the Cubs -- ranked No. 1 in Class-3A last week, lifted Waverly-Shell Rock from No. 15 to No. 12 this week.
The other four ranked teams from the area all climbed one spot in the new poll. Grundy Center went from 15th to 14th in Class-2A, while in Class-3A, Center Point-Urbana moved from third to second and La Porte City Union climbed from seventh to sixth.
Also moving up was Cedar Falls in Class-5A. The Tigers, ranked 12th last week, sit at No. 11 in the new poll.
