Waterloo Black Hawks' skater Shane Bowers scored in the middle of the third to even up the score and force overtime when the Muskegon Lumberjacks came to Young Arena.

The Hawks had led at two different points earlier in the action. Ethan Johnson opened the scoring at 2:41 of the first period on a sharp-angled chance in transition which redirected into the net. Muskegon tied at game at 10:08 when Keeghan Howdeshell slipped a low shot across the goal line during a power play.

Waterloo reassumed the lead on a redirection by Bailey Conger at 13:51. However, Garrett Van Wyhe equalized with a one-touch shot on a rush into the offensive zone at 5:11 of the second.

Waterloo bounced back from that 3-2 deficit when Bowers scored at 13:39, roofing a shot over the left shoulder of Keith Petruzzelli from the right wing circle.

Collin Adams scored in regulation, then recorded the only shootout goal to lift the visiting Muskegon Lumberjacks to a 4-3 decision at Young Arena on Saturday.

Adams converted in the third round of the shootout with a low shot to the glove side of Robbie Beydoun. He had also given the Lumberjacks their only lead of regulation, knocking in a power play rebound at 7:59 of the second period.

The Hawks are at home for their next game, opening the DUPACO Cowbell Cup Series against the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Friday at 7:05. For tickets, call the Domino’s Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or visit waterlooblackhawks.com.
