Quarterback Aaron Bailey was named MVFC Newcomer of the Week for the second consecutive week while linebacker Brett McMakin was named Defensive Player of the Week. It also marked the second week in a row that UNI has claimed the MVFC defensive award after Deiondre' Hall was selected for his performance against Eastern Washington on Sept. 12.

Bailey and McMakin were integral in helping 9th-ranked UNI to a 34-20 road win over No.17 Cal Poly. Both juniors scored career-highs in their position, leading UNI to its first back-to-back wins over top-25 ranked non-conference opponents since 2008.

McMakin, an Overland Park, Kan. native, finished the game against the Mustangs with a career-high 15 tackles. He was troublesome for the entire Cal Poly offense, helping the UNI defense to allow just 77 passing yards. His 15 tackles led both teams and is the highest total tackle count by a Panther this season.

Bailey went 15-25-0 for a career-high 218 yards and one passing touchdown to lead UNI to victory over the Mustangs. The Bolingbrook, Ill. native added 57 yards on the ground, also driving home his first two rushing touchdowns as a Panther. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry on 11 attempts.

The Panthers will return to action on Oct. 3 when they head to Normal, Ill., to take on 2nd-ranked Illinois State. The game is set to kick off at noon.
