Infielder Kennedy Bailey of the UNI softball team has been named Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Player of the Week, league officials announced on Monday (April 18, 2016).

Bailey (Delta BC, Canada) was instrumental in helping the Panthers win three of their four games last week. She hit four home runs in UNI's three-game sweep of Loyola over the weekend. The sophomore drove in 10 runs over the four-game stretch, including three multi-RBI performances while racking up a 1.700 slugging percentage.

Against Iowa on Tuesday (April 12), Bailey drove in two runs in the sixth inning to cut the deficit to three. In the series opener against Loyola on Friday, Bailey went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk, two home runs and three RBI. Her third home run of the day occurred in game two of the doubleheader -- a grand slam that put UNI up 8-0 in an eventual 12-0 win over the Ramblers.

Bailey and the Panthers will continue MVC play on Tuesday, April 20 when they host in-state rival Drake for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at Robinson-Dresser Field in Cedar Falls. The series features the top two teams in the league standings.

The league-leading Bulldogs (24-16 overall, 12-2 MVC) have lost four their last six games entering the twinbill, while second-place UNI (30-13, 9-5) has won won six of its last eight.
