Wartburg Women Advance To Third NCAA Sweet 16

The Wartburg women's basketball team has advanced to the Sweet 16 of the Division-III NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2001.

The Knights moved on to the sectional round for the third time in program history after upsetting No. 11/16 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 66-56, at the Kolf Sports Center in Oshkosh Saturday night (March 5, 2016).

Wartburg (21-7) never relinquished the lead after Morgan Neuendorf's 3-pointer made the score 20-18 with 5:29 left in the second quarter. The Knights led 30-25 at halftime.

Wartburg took control of the game in the third quarter, tallying 10-straight points to build a 44-30 advantage at the 2:51 mark. Senior Kailey Kladivo (Traer) scored seven points during the decisive surge, including a three-point play to cap the nearly three-minute run.

Kladivo led all scorers with 23 points, while classmate Bobbie Burrows (Bondurant) and sophomore Miranda Murphy (Alleman) joined her in double digits with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Murphy recorded a double-double, pulling down a team-best and career-high 10 rebounds.

Wartburg ended the game shooting 48-percent (24-50) from the field. They limited the Titans (23-6) to 35-percent shooting, which included just 14-percent from three-point range.

UP NEXT: Wartburg next faces No. 8/9 St. Thomas (Minn.) on Friday. The site and time of the game will be announced on Monday (March 7).
