Bucks Take Control Early, Cruise To Win At Duluth

A four-run second inning sparked the Waterloo Bucks to a 7-2 victory at Duluth Sunday afternoon (June 11, 2017).

Keaton Presley broke the game open with a bases-loaded triple down the right field line, which brought three runners home. Pressley then scored on Christian Boulware's groundout.

Duluth (6-7) cut the deficit to 4-1 in the bottom of the second, scoring on a bases-loaded walk.

The Bucks (9-4) later built a 6-1 advantage, responding with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Third baseman Zach Malis brought two teammates home with a base hit to right field, one of three singles he'd have on the day while going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Following his performance against the Huskies on Sunday, Malis leads the Northwoods League with 20 hits. His team-best .408 batting average is among the fifth-best in the 20-team circuit. The sophomore from Grand Canyon University in Arizona also leads Waterloo with 12 runs batted in through 13 games.

Starting pitcher Anthony Ruden (1-0) recorded the victory for the Bucks, his first of the season. Ruden allowed six hits, walked four Duluth batters and struck out two in 6.1 innings on the mound.
