Week six of the Iowa high school football season gets an early start for area teams with Waterloo West playing at Cedar Rapids Jefferson Thursday night (Sept. 29, 2016).

Officials with the Waterloo School District have confirmed that the game will be played, even though schools in Cedar Rapids have been closed all week due to flooding. The game is scheduled to kick-off at 7:15 p.m., following completion of the 5 p.m. sophomore contest.

The Wahawks (5-0) were ranked 8th in this week's Associated Press Class-4A poll. The J-Hawks (0-5) remain winless.

Waterloo Schools officials are urging fans to allow extra travel time to get to the venue. Traffic will be extremely heavy on Interstate-380, because its the downtown bridge crossing the swollen Cedar River that is currently open in Cedar Rapids.

Cedar Falls fans are also encouraged to leave early when the Tigers (3-2) play Cedar Rapids Washington (5-0) at Kingston Stadium on Friday night.
