Winneshiek County authorities have now determined that a double shooting that left 2 people dead last Sunday, was a murder/suicide.
The sheriff received a report of multiple gunshots at about 6:30pm Sunday, at a mobile home court in Freeport, just east of Decorah.

When deputies arrived, they found the bodies of 41 year old Sarah Szabo and her ex-boyfriend, 55 year old Craig Freilinger. The two had reportedly just recently broken up.

The investigation included autopsies by the State Medical Examiner, plus multiple search warrants, extensive interviews, neighborhood canvases, tips, speculations, leads, and even rumors.

The evidence indicates that 41 year old Sarah Szabo was shot multiple times by Freilinger; her death was ruled a homicide.

And the 55 year old Freilinger died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, determined to be a suicide.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff was assisted in the investigation by the Iowa DCI, Winneshiek County Attorney, Decorah Police, Calmar Police, Iowa State Patrol, Decorah Fire Department, Winneshiek County Emergency Management, Winneshiek Medical Center, Winneshiek County First Responders, and the State Medical Examiner's Office.
