The Fayette County Sheriff has arrested 2 area residents following an investigation into local drug activity.

On Friday (Feb. 26), Fayette County Deputies, with assistance from the Winneshiek County Sheriff's office, Department of Public Safety Narcotics Enforcement Division, and the Department of Correctional Services, conducted a search of vehicles and a couple of residences.

After the search, 24 year old Isaac Nieto of Waucoma and 27 year old Jesse Reyes of Hawkeye were taken into custody just outside of Hawkeye. In their possession, they has almost 90 grams of cocaine, cash, and other narcotics.

Both are being charged with possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of prescription drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug tax stamp violations, and having open containers of alcohol in a vehicle.

A search of Nieto's residence near Jackson Junction resulted in the confiscation of evidence, with more charges possibly filed later this week.

Another search of a home in Hawkeye has resulted in charges against 31 year old Ashley Rochford for possession of cocaine and methamphetamine, 2nd offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Reyes had 3 warrants from Georgia for a parole violation, possession of firearms as a felon, theft by receiving stolen property, and possession of narcotics. The state of Georgia is expected to extradite Reyes.

This is an ongoing investigation, and more charges could be filed at a later date.
