Authorities are looking for the cause of a fire that damaged a building in downtown Lansing.
Firefighters were called out early Sunday (Sept. 11) to the former Smerud Construction Company building, on Main Street in Lansing.

The blaze was located in the basement and lower levels; there are apartments on the second floor, however no one was in the building at the time.

Some residents in nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution.

An unidentified firefighter was treated for exhaustion, otherwise there were no injuries.

The origin of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall.
