Five Oelwein residents have been arrested over the weekend, while kayaking on the Upper Iowa River in Winneshiek County.


Shortly after 4:00 p.m. Sunday (May 27), authorities received several reports of people on the river who were possibly in distress.

The Decorah Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DNR, and the Winneshiek County Sheriff responded to the Upper Iowa River in Bluffton Township.

As a result, five Oelwein residents were arrested for Public Intoxication. They were identified as 52-year-old Randall Rau, 50-year-old Timothy Wright, 44-year-old Jolene Wright, 21-year-old Rachel Wright, and 18-year-old Nicole Wright.
