Iowa is getting the chance to dry out following a prolonged period of rain the past three days. However, river levels remain high across the state and wide-spead flooding continues throughout the Cedar Valley and other surrounding areas.

Flood warnings remain in effect for the Cedar River in Black Hawk County. Moderate flooding is forecast at Cedar Falls, where the river is expected to rise to 3.6 feet above the 88-foot river level at midday Thursday (Dec. 17, 2015). Minor flooding is expected downstream between Waterloo and La Porte City, where the water level is predicted to crest about a foot above its 13-foot flood stage, also at midday Thursday.

Black Hawk Creek is also running high between the Black Hawk-Grundy County line to the Cedar River in Waterloo, where moderate flooding has forced the closure of several city streets. The creek is expected to crest about three feet above its 14-foot flood level at midday today.

Flood warnings are also posted for Clayton and Marshall counties, where minor flooding is occurring. In Clayton County, the Turkey River at Garber crested about two feet above flood stage early this morning and should fall below the 17-foot level later today. In Marshall County, the Iowa River at Marshalltown is expected to crest about 1.5 feet above its 19-foot flood stage this afternoon.

High water is inundating low-lying areas and causing wide-spread basement flooding throughout Marshall, Grundy and Hardin counties. At 3:30 a.m. today, local law enforcement reported the closure of several roads across the area, including two well-traveled routes in Marshall County -- Iowa Highway 14 between U-S Highway 30 and Iowa Highway 330 near Marshalltown and Iowa Highway 330 between County Roads E-29 and S-75 near Albion.

The water levels are all forecast to fall rapidly once they reach their crest. Specific details on the flood warnings issued by the National Weather Service are posted below.
