Earlier this year, Toys R Us announced that it would be shutting down all of its U.S. stores. Well, that day has finally come. The once-iconic toy store chain will close its doors for good this week. There is some hope that the chain could be brought back, but for now, this is the end of an era.

I'll always remember sifting through the pages of the Big Toy Book every holiday season, circling the toys I'd hoped to receive for my birthday or Christmas. It's a tradition I wanted to pass on to my own kids someday. Visiting the toy store was such a magical experience for so many kids. Whether you're 3 or 33, chances are you remember the joy of running through the aisles and finding that toy you couldn't wait to open.

Toys R Us sent out a touching tribute to fans on Wednesday. The message includes a photo of Geoffrey inside an empty store, waving goodbye and holding a suitcase:

"Thanks to each of you who shared your amazing journey to (and through) parenthood with us, and to every grandparent, aunt, uncle, brother and sister ... Promise us just this one thing: Don't ever grow up. Play on!"

Today is officially canceled. I'm not crying. YOU'RE crying.
