Gladbrook-Reinbeck kicked off the 2015 Iowa High School Boys Basketball Tournament with a decisive, 80-57, win over Nodaway Valley in Des Moines on Monday (March 9). The victory secures the top-seeded Rebels a spot in the Class 1A semifinals.

Making its first state tournament appearance as a combined program, No. 1-ranked Gladbrook-Reinbeck (26-0) jumped out to a 12-0 lead and owned a 17-3 advantage after the opening eight minutes of play.

Senior guard Joe Smoldt scored 12 of his game-high 31 points in the first quarter. Smoldt and senior guard Camden Kickbush together tallied 55 points for the Rebels on combined 19-of-29 shooting. Together, they were 11-of-15 from three-point range.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck led the Wolverines 41-20 at intermission. The Rebels built their lead as high as 34 points (60-26) with 2:06 remaining in the third quarter, a period in which they outscored Nodaway Valley 25-16.

Kickbush ended the game with 24 points for Gladbrook-Reinbeck, while senior forward Cameron Clark added 12. Senior center Zach Pierce led the team with 10 rebounds.
