Groundbreaking for Hospital Expansion in Oelwein

A groundbreaking will take place in Oelwein this (Tuesday) afternoon for an expansion project at Mercy Hospital.
The ceremony will take place at 2pm at Mercy Hospital of Franciscan Sisters in Oelwein.

The $1.5 million project includes expansion of the emergency department, patient registration area, and laboratory.

The new construction will allow for more patient privacy, along with a climate-controlled emergency entrance.

Larson Construction of Independence will be the main contractor for the 5,000 square foot addition; the project should be finished in about 18 months.
