John Legend is currently working on a couple of projects for television. The R&B piano man has partnered with Netflix and former NBC executive Jeff Gaspin to develop a hip-hop competition series called Rhythm & Flow, reports Variety.

Similar to other reality-competition programs like American Idol and The Voice, the Netflix show is being described as shiny-floor music competition that focuses on hip-hop as well as soul and R&B. The series is being produced under Legend’s Get Lifted Film Co. and Gaspin’s Primary Wave Entertainment banners. There’s no word on when the Rhythm & Flow will premiere on Netflix.

This news comes as Legend is also developing another dramatic series called Black Wall Street with actress Tika Sumpter for WGN America.

The series will focus on the oil boom of the late 1910s in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specifically the prosperous Greenwood neighborhood which later became known as “Black Wall Street.” The series will explore the group of black people that lived in the area and made it successful, leading up to the infamous destruction of the neighborhood in 1921 by racist white attackers. The Tulsa Race Riot was one of the largest mass killings in the history of the U.S., though the story was largely covered up.

The project is in the early stages of production, but if it gets picked up as a series, Black Wall Street could debut on WGN in 2018. Legend has worked with WGN before with the critically-acclaimed hit series, Underground, which lady was canceled last season.
