Lightning Cause of Fire that Destroys Area Barn

Lightning is apparently the culprit, in starting a fire in Independence that destroyed a 100 year old barn.

Holly Cameron told authorities that she heard a loud noise and saw a bright flash of light during a storm Thursday night, just prior to finding her barn ablaze.

The century-old barn was engulfed when fire departments from 3 area communities arrived at the scene.

They let the structure burn out; the blaze also destroyed some tools and hay stored in the barn.

A dollar figure was not put on the damage.

No one was injured, and no animals were being kept in the barn at the time.
