As Oelwein students prepare to go back to school this week, their parents may be happy to learn that the Oelwein High School has been rated as "One of America's Best High Schools in 2018".

The school was recognized by U.S. News and World Report.

The publication notes that the Oelwein school ranks 84% both in Mathematics Proficiency, and 84% in Reading Proficiency.

Schools are ranked based on their performance on state-required tests, and how well they prepare students for college.

Oelwein's graduation rate is 92%, which is above the state average.

Schools across the country were awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Medals by the publication. In the National Rankings, Oelwein has been awarded a Bronze Medal.

The top 3 schools in Iowa, ranked by the publication, are West Liberty (#1), Linn-Mar (#2), and Ames (#3). Decorah was rated #6, while Cedar Falls High School was 7th in the state.
