The Muskegon Lumberjacks overcame a two-goal deficit to claim a 3-2 shootout win at Young Arena on Friday, February 13, 2015 against the Waterloo Black Hawks.

With 1:47 remaining in regulation, Mark Petaccio fired a long shot through traffic and into the net off the pipe for his second goal of the game, erasing a lead the Hawks had held since the opening period. After a scoreless overtime, Juraj Mily recorded the only goal during a three-round shootout, slipping his opportunity past the left skate of Cale Morris.

John Wiitala had scored from a near-impossible angle to put the Hawks ahead 6:44 into the game. Working below the goal line, the veteran forward flipped a puck off the back of goaltender Eric Schierhorn’s right shoulder, from whence it bounced over the goal line. Waterloo cashed in shorthanded nearly eight minutes later; after a shot block, Max Coatta and Henrik Rommel startled the Lumberjacks with a quick breakout, with Coatta setting up Rommel for a redirection into an open side.

Petaccio was able to halve the Hawks lead at 14:40 of the second. On right wing and navigating toward the slot, he wristed a shot under the crossbar.

NEXT UP: The Hawks wrap up the weekend with a Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup matchup against the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on the road Saturday. Waterloo takes the ice at Young Arena again next Friday against the Sioux City Musketeers.
