A young Postville man could face life in prison, after being charged with kidnapping for sexually assaulting two young girls.


19-year-old Wilmer Elias Soy was taken into custody Thursday (June 21). The Fayette County Sheriff was notified on June 6th, that two 13-year-old girls were picked up without their parents permission or knowledge, in the 100 block of East Bradford Street in West Union on June 4th.

Soy is accused of driving the two girls out in the country, where he allegedly sexually assaulted them. The girls were returned to West Union the same day.

Following an investigation, Soy was taken into custody and held in the Fayette County jail in West Union, on $250,000 bond.

The Fayette County Sheriff notes that the charge of Kidnapping in the 1st Degree is implemented, when the abduction includes sexual abuse. It is a Class "A" felony.
If Soy is convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison without any chance for parole.

The girls and their families are being assisted by the Domestic and Sexual Abuse Response Team (DASART), with resources to help them through the process.
The Fayette County Sheriff was assisted in the investigation, by the Winneshiek County Sheriff.
