A man is accused of injuring his co-worker in an assault outside a northeast Iowa school earlier this week.

According to Fayette County sheriff's officials, criminal charges are pending against Jake Adkins, 31, of Marshalltown, in connection with the incident that occurred at Starmont School near Arlington around noon on Sunday (July 9, 2017).

Sheriff's officials said Douglas Parades, 55, of Perry, suffered what they described as "major injuries" in the assault. Parades was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Manchester, before being air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

In a news release, Fayette County sheriff's officials said their investigation revealed that Adkins assaulted Parades. When the incident occurred, both men were working for Fisher Tracks, a Boone-based company hired to repair the outdoor track surface at Starmont School.

The incident remains under investigation.
