An Oelwein motorist is ok, but a cow did not fare so well, in a weekend traffic accident.

It happened at about 9pm Saturday (Aug. 27) on Highway 281, west of Oelwein.

Paul Phillips was driving west, when he encountered several cows in the road. His car collided with one of the animals.

Phillips was not injured, but the cow had to be euthanized. The rest of the herd made it back to their barnyard.

The car, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix, sustained about $5,000 in damage.

The accident was investigated by the Buchanan County Sheriff.
