Officials at one Northeast Iowa school are trying to determine why so many students are out sick.

About 60 children, or nearly half the students at Plainfield Intermediate school, are home with flu-like symptoms. They were dismissed after getting sick to their stomach, with vomiting.

The district's superintendent has sent water samples to the health department to determine if the supply is contaminated.

They are also looking at the possibility of food poisoning. The Plainfield school building is getting a thorough cleaning, and students' lunches are being prepared at a different location.

Also, kids are being given bottled water.

The Bremer County Health Department is heading up the investigation, and it will take several days before the school gets results from test samples.
