NE Iowan Charged with Killing Step-Father in Waukon

Authorities have arrested a Northeast Iowa man, accused of shooting and killing his stepfather.

The Allamakee County dispatch center received a 911 call just before 3:30pm Monday, reporting an accidental shooting at a residence in the Parkview Trailer Court on Jean Road in Waukon.

32-year-old John Quanrude of Waukon told responding authorities that he fired a warning shot at his step-father and roommate 60-year-old Dean Russell. Quanrude then fired another shot, striking Russell in the chest.

Russell was taken to the Waukon hospital where he died from his injuries.

Quanrude was arrested and charged with 2nd degree murder. He faces a maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
