The Waterloo Board of Education is expected to approve the appointment of a new principal for Central Middle School at an upcoming meeting.

Ross Bauer has been chosen as the top administrator at Central, pending board approval. He would replace outgoing principal Alissa Richards on July 1, 2017, when her resignation takes effect.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Bauer join our team," Waterloo Schools superintendent Dr. Jane Lindaman said in a press release announcing the leadership change. "He is a great match for Central and will be able to move them to the next phase. He comes to us with successful leadership experience and will be able to hit the ground running.”

Bauer is the current 7-12 grade principal at Wapsie Valley School near Fairbank. He previously worked as a teacher, grant coordinator and administrative assistant at West High School in Waterloo from 2007-2014.

“I’m very excited to be back in a leadership role in the district where I started as an educator," Bauer said. "I’m looking forward to working with students, staff, and families to build on the great things happening at Central Middle School.”

Bauer received his undergraduate degree in English teaching and master’s degree in principalship from the University of Northern Iowa. The Alden, Iowa, native is currently working on his superintendency certificate in the advanced studies program, also at UNI.
