Police are investigating a series of shooting incidents that left one person dead and three others injured in Waterloo early Saturday (May 19, 2018).

Officers responded to three separate reports of shots being fired in the city, all within a span of five hours.

The latest occurred around 5:16 AM at 639 Gable St. According to Waterloo police, officers found a man inside the home suffering from a serious gunshot wound when they arrived. Authorities said the victim was rushed to UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital, where he later died.

Just 40 minutes earlier, at 4:36 AM, officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Sycamore St. to investigate a report of someone hearing gunshots in the area. Police said while officers were conducting the probe, they learned that one person injured in the shooting was being treated for non life-threatening injuries at Allen.

The first report of shots fired occurred around 12:15 AM in the 1300 block of E. 4th St. As officers checked the area, they discovered the shooting actually happened near Linn and Cottage streets, about one block away. Waterloo police said two people suffered non life-threatening gunshot wounds in the incident and a vehicle sustained damage.

According to Waterloo police, all three shooting incidents remaining under investigation. Authorities said they don't plan to release any further information -- including victims' names -- until Monday.
