Retail giant J.C. Penney has announced the closure of over 100 more stores, one of them located in Northeast Iowa.

The Texas-based company announced that the 138 stores are closing as part of an effort to continue advancing sustainable growth, and provide long term profitability.

In Iowa, Penney's stores in Decorah, Fort Dodge, Oskaloosa and Ottumwa will be shuttered. A total of 138 stores nationwide will close, effecting about 5,000 employees.

Store officials note that they will try to help relocate workers within the company.

The liquidation process will start the middle of April, with most outlets closing in June.
