Waverly-Shell Rock's season is over following a heart-breaking, extra-inning loss in the Class-4A regional finals. The 15th-ranked Go-Hawks fell to 10th-rated West Delaware, 2-1, in 11-innings Tuesday night (July 15, 2014).

The loss ends Waverly-Shell Rock's season at 31-9 and denies the Go-Hawks their first trip to state since 1994.

For West Delaware, the victory ends a 25-year state tournament absence. The Hawks (30-7) will be making their eighth tournament appearance when they face Norwalk (27-12) in a Class-4A state quarterfinal game at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. West Delaware's last trip to state ended with a fourth-place finish in 1988.

The 2014 state softball tournament begins Monday and continues through Friday, July 25th at Harlan and Hazel Rogers Park in Fort Dodge.
