Officers investigating a report of suspicious activity outside a Cedar Falls retail store found a runaway juvenile, recovered a stolen vehicle and took two adults into custody Wednesday morning (Sept. 20, 2017).

Police were called to Target, 214 Viking Plaza Dr., shortly before 8:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they witnessed three people inside a vehicle acting suspicious, Cedar Falls police said.

During the investigation, authorities learned that the vehicle was reported stolen in Buchanan County. Authorities said they found illicit drugs and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

Officers discovered a runaway girl from Buchanan County was among the three occupants. Cedar Falls police said they released the juvenile to a parent and arrested two adults, Zachary Brehme and Tya Straw.

Brehme, 18, and Straw, 19, were both taken into custody on charges of harboring a runaway child and possession of drug paraphernalia. Authorities also charged Brehme with second-degree theft and possession of a controlled substance.
