The City of Waterloo is requesting volunteers to help with sandbagging. They also updated the latest road closures (as of 8:45 AM Saturday).

Sandbaggers are needed in the City of Waterloo. Volunteers are asked to call via landline 2-1-1 to get further information/direction. On a cell phone, please call 1-866-469-2211 or 319-739-4211.

The City of Waterloo has closed Fletcher Avenue from University Avenue to Highway 63 due to flooding of Black Hawk Creek.

The public is urged to obey all road-closed signs as they are posted.

The following bridges are closed and will remain closed at least through Monday:

  • Downtown Railroad Bridge
  • 11th Street Bridge
  • Park Avenue Bridge
  • Westfield Avenue Bridge
  • 18th Avenue Bridge

The East 4th, 5th, 6th Street bridges, Conger Avenue, and Highway 63 bridges are remaining open at this time.

If you have emergency sewer related questions/concerns please call 319-291-4553. For emergency street closure or sandbagging related questions/concerns please call 319-291-4267. Please only call if assistance is needed as these phone lines may become full.

Citizens whose properties are located in a floodplain area are encouraged to take precaution. Sand bags are available in moderation at the Public Works Building located at 625 Glenwood Avenue and at the DOT location on Ridgeway Avenue.

Don’t drive or walk through flood water and please stay away from the river at this time.

The City will continue to monitor and provide updates as more information on potential closures becomes available.
