Cedar Falls Public Safety Director Jeff Olson said late night activity on College Hill occasionally brings about criminal activity. City officials and late night business owners plan to discuss improved methods of security and what they can do together to prevent crime and apprehend those who commit crimes.

City officials decided to review security measures in the College Hill area of Cedar Falls after two 18-year-olds from Waterloo were injured in a New Year's Day shooting. According to police, someone fired multiple shots from a handgun into a group of people in the 2200 block College Street around 1:45 AM on Tuesday. Corey Dunn, Jr. and Sincere Jones, were both treated for gunshot wounds at the hospital. The suspect got away.

According to Olson, Cedar Falls leaders are committed to doing what they can to assure that the city's crime rate remains one of the lowest in Iowa. He said local officials are also reviewing street and parking lot lighting, along with improved camera usage in the College Hill area.

City officials plan to hold a similar meeting with downtown Cedar Falls businesses in the near future.
